The broad clip point of the blade of the Trail Master is extremely resistant to bending or breaking. This is largely due to the fact that the tip is actually thicker near the point than what is seen on competitor's knives. This, however, does not mean that the point is dull or blunt. On the contrary, the point is almost needle sharp and offers tremendous penetration. Plus, the blade-back is equipped with a slightly concave false edge that measures approximately three and a half inches long. Every Trail Master's edge has been honed by hand, then given a high-speed buff until it is truly razor sharp and capable of easily shaving the hair off one's arm. This knife is so sharp it will cut at the slightest touch. The Trail Master balances approximately 3/4" in front of the guard for a slightly blade-heavy feel that is ideal for delivering heavy chopping and slashing strokes. The Trail Master's Kray-Ex handle is 5" long and deeply checkered for a non-slip, shock-absorbing grip. What's more, its contoured cross-section helps prevent the knife from shifting or turning in the hand when striking full power blows. The double guard is very sturdy and rigidly fixed into place. It is long enough to keep fingers off the blade, yet short enough to avoid being tangled in clothing or equipment when the Trail Master is drawn.

The main competition to the Bowie knife from the late 1830's to the period just after the Civil War was the Arkansas Toothpick. The Arkansas Toothpick got its namesake as an ironic reference to the coarse, rough and tumble culture that populated the lowlands of Arkansas and the Mississippi delta in the mid 19th century. Travelling journalists from Europe often made up stories about how they commonly saw men and old boys picking their teeth with giant knives that they dubbed Arkansas Toothpicks. Like the Bowie it was frequently a large knife almost always double edged with a sharp acute point. Wes Crawford, the custom knifemaker, has been a friend of Cold Steel for years, so they were happy to collaborate with him on the creation of an inexpensive version of one of his pricey custom flippers. ynn C. Thompson Signature Knife - The Oyabun Limited is a high-end collectible version of our Oyabun. It shares features in common with the standard model in terms of functionality and appearance but differs markedly in the materials used in its construction. It also has the value of being a collectible keepsake in that only 3500 have been produced. Each is individually serial numbered, and each box will be personally signed by Lynn C. Thompson himself! The premium S35VN steel in the blade is a costly powdered steel that is heat treated to Rc 59-60 and sub zero quenched. It has been given an attractive two-tone line grain finish on the blade flats, and a high satin polish on the blade bevels. Most noticeably, the handle frame is milled from two solid billets of 6061 aluminum to create the bolster and pommel, which have been given a fine mirror polished finish. The handle also features CNC machined G-10 slabs with a diamond checkering pattern for a good secure grip.

Style and Construction:
The broad clip point of the blade is extremely resistant to bending or breaking.
