Style and Construction:
The broad clip point of the blade is extremely resistant to bending or breaking. This is largely due to the fact that the tip is actually thicker near the point than what is seen on our competitor's knives. This, however, does not mean that the point is dull or blunt. On the contrary, the point is almost needle sharp and offers tremendous penetration. Plus, the blade-back is equipped with a slightly concave false edge that measures approximately three and a half inches long. Every Trail Master's® edge has been honed by hand, then given a high speed buff until it is truly razor sharp and capable of easily shaving the hair off one's arm. This knife is so sharp it will cut at the slightest touch. The Trail Master® balances approximately 3/4" in front of the guard for a slightly blade-heavy feel that is ideal for delivering heavy chopping and slashing strokes. The Trail Master's® Kray-Ex™ handle is 5" long and deeply checkered for a non-slip, shock absorbing grip. What's more, its contoured cross section helps prevent the knife from shifting or turning in the hand when striking full power blows. The double guard is very study and rigidly fixed into place. A design collaboration between Andrew Demko and Lynn C. Thompson, the ColdSteel Finn Hawk is the latest in our series of inexpensive hard wearing bushcraft and outdoor tools. The German 4116 Stainless blade is hollow ground and given an Rc hardness of 56-57, so it will hold a good edge and is easy to re-sharpen. Its blade shape is centuries old and practical because of its good sturdy point for piercing and long belly for skinning, cutting and carving. It's big and strong enough to skin a Moose, yet thin and delicate enough to slice a tomato or cut up an apple.
The Finn Bear has a straight handle with a slightly ribbed texture for traction. Its modified diamond cross section will fit your hand like a glove and accommodate a wide variety of gripping methods. Historically, the Roach-Bellied knife was a short blade with a pronounced upswept curve and a sharp point that saw popularity in 17th century Britain and the American Colonies. It was most likely named after the common Roach Fish, which had a similarly round curving belly. ColdSteel's model is a nod to the Black Powder Community, which has continued to appreciate the Roach Belly's economy, versatility and effectiveness. Over the years our Pendleton Hunters have become enormously popular, and while we think they are reasonably priced, many have asked us for a more affordable Pendleton that will accommodate just about anyone's budget.
So we got together with Lloyd and designed a new knife we call the Pendleton Lite Hunter. In appearance it strongly resembles the rest of the family with a drop point blade, modest guard, hollowed bolster area and a flared butt to aid retention. The only major changes were the adoption of more affordable German 4116 Stainless Steel and the use of polypropylene instead of Kraton for the handle.
In our testing it got straight A's in the field as it is equally adept at field dressing and skinning, held a decent edge, was easy to sharpen, and proved to be tough as nails.

In fabricating these knives, we have tried to duplicate Lloyd's work as accurately as possible. Both the Pendleton Hunter's hollow ground blade and the Mini Hunter's flat ground blade are honed to perfection. The handle's cross sections and contours match Lloyd's handmade knives exactly.
